We are playing a great show this Friday with an incredible line-up: I is for Ida, Romeo Goes to Hell, Gingerbread Patriots and Unit 7 Drain. Wow! Then on Saturday we are opening for some touring bands that we have never heard of but it is an all ages show and we don't get to play many of those so we are excited. That one is at the Sunshine Theater. Check the when page for details. Come to a show!

Hello Friends!

Long time with no update from the Oktober People. We have been lying low and working on new songs but, we have two great shows coming up this weekend. On Saturday we play at Burt's Tiki Lounge at 11 p.m. as part of the Weekly Alibi Fall Crawl. Lots of other bands playing all over downtown. For you folks that are not a fan of the crawls or big crowds, on Sunday night we will be playing at the Atomic Cantina with a great band from Oakland, The Cushion Theory. Opening up that show will be Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Thanks to the folks that let us crash on their floors and a huge thanks to Terry for setting up the tour. Here is a little interview about me being in two bands: getout.amarillo.com.

We had a fantastic time in Austin. SXSW was so much fun, I got to see so much music and see so many friends. Our showcase show went really well and we got some good press that I will put on the press page. Thanks a ton to the Detach Records guys for letting us play their party and letting us drink their beer. Also thanks again to Michael Henningson, I doubt we would have been able to go without his help.

Here are the bands I got to see:

Thursday, 3/17:
Stars - Emo’s
Pedro the Lion – Emo’s
The Gingerbread Patriots – Co-op Bar
American Analog Set – Emo’s
Film School – Buffalo Billiards
A Hawk and a Hacksaw – Copa
Damon and Naomi – Copa
Doves – La Zona Rosa

Friday, 3/18:
Film School – Trophy’s
Experimental Aircraft – Trophy’s
Black Angels – Trophy’s
Love Overdose – Trophy’s
Swearing at Motorists – The Church of the Friendly Ghost
Shine Cherries – Las Manitas
Nels Andrews and the El Paso Eyepatch – Las Manitas
John Cale – La Zona Rosa
Spoon – La Zona Rosa

Saturday, 3/19:
Knife in the Water – Trophy’s
The Cutaway – Trophy’s
Centro-Matic – Red Eyed Fly
The Frames – Red Eyed Fly
+/- - Blender Bar at the Ritz
Dogs – Buffalo Billiards
Swearing at Motorists – Buffalo Billiards
Midnight Movies – Exodus
I Love You, But I’ve Chosen Darkness - Blender Bar at the Ritz
American Analog Set - Blender Bar at the Ritz

There were more bands that I didn't even get the chance to see. The Frames were the best thing I saw. Incredible show. I am thinking about doing a more detailed diary of the whole event if I get the time. I definitely have to put some pictures up.

We are taking a short break before getting back in the swing of things. We have a ton of April shows lined up.

Tour: two major snowstorms, many rainy drives, a mudslide that wiped out the freeway (which meant 5 hours of extra driving), 1 canceled show, 1 show added at the last minute, many beers, a lot of driving (including driving across Death Valley, one of the most amazing drives I have ever taken), only one major band blowout(in the middle of a set), some good shows(Thank you AZ!) and some not so good(Davis and San Luis Obispo, CA) , much time spent with good friends, some really terrible food and some great food(Mario's Peruvian in LA!), about 3400 miles altogether. Thanks so much to all our friends that gave us a place to stay.

Found out while we were on tour that we have been invited to play South by Southwest, which is pretty damn exciting. We have a bunch of shows coming up over the next few months, but hopefully we will get some time in to write some new material.

Man when I listen to Mogwai ... especially TenRapid, I get this funny urgent feeling in my lower back and legs that I need to bring the rock. Something about the massive sound they make just shoots the need to rock into my entire body. I cannot wait to bring the rock starting January 2nd. I need it. I crave it like a crackwhore. I hope I never stop craving the desire to bring the rock - Friggin loud, emotionally charged rock n' roll. Not many things in my life can top the internal high and emotional release I get from it. An existence of perpetual musical blue balls would just plain suck. I think I'm going to be playing music for the rest of my life ... and this is a good thing, I think.

well, my period of mourning is over, and now it is time to refocus on the plan. Tonite is our cd release, which should be tons of fun. I guess there can be good news with all bad news; at least Bush can not be elected again in four years. So for the time we must continue to push our Impeach the Moron campaign, which can hopefully gain steam nation wide. Despite Bush's claim that a slight victory equals a mandate from the American people, The Oktober People will continue our push towards a just society. Hopefully we can be victorious before our entire generation is destroyed. IMPEACH THE MORON, 2004.

I do know if my wages fall even half as much as they did in the past four years, I will be paying people to let me work. I should be excited, because we have a cd out on friday, but its hard to get excited when we are a stupid enough country to elect President Dumber than dirt, and his Vice-President Satan. Last nite I wanted to view some comedy, so I watched the RNC. Dubya was up there talking about how we can conquer the world ourselves, without any mention of any allies (probably because they are becoming fewer), pausing after every phrase to put on his grandpa smile. However, everything he was saying was total bullshit and completely unfounded. Any American who believes that he, or any politician, speaks the truth is sadly misinformed. Example: Bush mentioned how he was going to be a fiscally responsible president when he was speaking about how a responsible President knows how to conserve finances, yet he is building up record deficits, tripled our funding for the Homeland Security Dept., and sent innocent young men and women to slaughter innocent (for the most part) men, women, and children. And his cronies are running anti-Kerry ads about Kerry's military record. I don't know about you, but I would much rather see a decorated veteran be our commander-in-chief than a pampered brat whose daddy bought him a ticket to the National Guard (his whereablouts during these years are questionable) because he was afraid of Vietnam. Oh yeah, great show tonight at the Lunchbox. Simple is one of my favorite live acts... you should go. enough rambling....

Somewhere in between typing up numerous midterms for my up and coming career in political ranting and raving, I stopped by the space to hear what I was told was a great band, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and I must say that Sean is right. Their music is incredible, as is Sean's talent when it comes to recording great sounding music, and I can not wait to hear them at the Launchpad some day. It made me happy to remember that when times are stressful, we still can listen to new sounds that will always reinvigorate our desire to rock and roll.

IMPEACH THE MORON, DON'T REELECT HIM.

Spent the weekend recording an amazing band from Portales called Weapons of Mass Destruction. Their music is beautiful and they are a really nice bunch of guys. The recording came out really well, probably the best I have done so far. Check their website (Weapons of Mass Destruction) for mp3s. The Oktober People recording is so, so close to being done! Soon.........

Hey, I'm just saving my energy for a truly impressive and intense political rant. Man I wish we had practice tonight ... I could so go for some loud rock. And yeah

IMPEACH THE MORON!

I am a little disappointed in Rhian and Chris for not posting on here more. Where are the blatant subversive political rants! IMPEACH THE MORON!

Thanks a ton to all our friends that came out to our show last night. That was the most fun we have had at a show in a long time. Also much thanks to Ghost Town and Ready Samsara for playing with us and to Leonard/Atomic for having us. Back to recording mode, almost done!

We wont be playing any shows for a while so as to concentrate on recording. It is such a slow process with us having these damn day jobs that get in the way. We recently got a Fender Rhodes so look for some keyboard action at our next show.
